Happy summer Canada!

We all have this insufferable Facebook friend who "informs" us every Christmas and Easter that those are just pagan holidays that have been recycled by christians...as if we would throw the turkey in the garbage just for that. I actually like to think of la St. Jean (june 24) and Canada day (july 1) as big summer solstices. In a country that's goes through  such depressing fall and harsh winters, I think it fits. We have chrismas eve on december 24th and New Year on January 1st, June 24st and July 1st are just their summer twins...

I may speak french, but ask me to choose between Windsor castle and Versailles neither beats having a beer and campfire along a river deep in the woods. Nature's been in Canada way before white people, and it's more canadian than any treaty or paper

Also, Quebecois had this urge to be more french than the french for a long time. When he made drawings of his outposts of Quebec and Port Royal, Samuel de Champlain (after whom half the city of Dieppe is named) added completely fictionnal french « Minecraft-like » gardens like this was the Louvre just to impress Richelieu....
